When It Is Time to Repair Your Water Heater
Obviously, the most noticeable indicator of a water heater problem will be the lack of warm water coming from your kitchen or bathroom faucets. However, there can be other warning signs that you may see before it reaches this point. Check for these signs to know when it is time to repair your water heater:
- Your water temperature is irregular. If you take a shower and notice that the water changes from cool to warm several times, then the water heater may not be very efficient.
- The tank makes strange noises. As the water heater ages, it may start making odd noises. Banging or cracking noises may indicate a buildup of mineral deposits inside the tank of the water heater. This will need to be cleaned out so the appliance can work properly again.
- Water comes out discolored. Brown or reddish hot water may mean that your water heater is rusting out. The tank will need to be cleaned in this case as well.
- Water is leaking out of the water heater tank. This issue should be repaired immediately, as water can leak out and corrode the outside of the tank or cause electrical hazards.
If your water heater is older than 15 years, the plumber may recommend a total replacement rather than a repair.
Choosing Tankless or Traditional Water Heaters
Replacing a water heater means making a choice between the newer tankless water heaters or sticking with the traditional type. Tankless water heaters are smaller and can last longer, but they may not be the best choice if you have a larger family and everyone needs to shower in the mornings. Our professional plumbers will talk with you about your individual needs and help you decide which type is best suited for your property.
