Where the Thermostat Sits Matters More Than the Brand
Thermostat installation in Lakeland and Plant City fails most often because of where the old stat is mounted. An exterior wall or a spot in the afternoon sun reads high, so the air conditioner never rests. Licensed CRC1335717. Call (863) 667-6364.
We match the new stat to the system already in the house, check the wires in the wall, and run a cooling cycle before we leave. A house that will not cool after a new stat is usually the AC repair problem underneath it: drain, filter, or capacitor.
Where should a thermostat go in a Florida house?
Put it on an interior wall, away from a supply vent and out of the sun. A stat on an outside wall or in a west window will sit several degrees high all afternoon. The compressor keeps running because the stat thinks the room is still hot.
Moving that stat is cheaper than buying a smarter one and leaving it in the same bad spot. AC maintenance is the visit that catches a stat and a drain on the same trip.
Will a new thermostat work with the air conditioner you have?
Most replacements use the low-voltage wires already in the wall. We count those wires and match the stat to a conventional system, a heat pump, or a unit that needs a common wire. If the cable is short a conductor, we say so before anyone orders the stat.
A new line-voltage circuit is electrical work. We do not do that. On an AC installation that needs a new circuit, we point it out and a licensed electrician does the panel work.
What does the install visit actually include?
Pull the old stat. Confirm the wires. Mount the new one on an interior wall if the old location was lying. Set the schedule if you want one. Then run the system and wait through the compressor delay.
That delay is the 3 minute rule on the AC repair page. Restarting a compressor the second it stops makes it start against high pressure. Most new stats already wait. If yours does not, we set that pause.
Most swaps finish in about an hour. A wall that has to be fished for a new cable takes longer, and we say that before we open drywall.
When is the thermostat the wrong repair?
The house is warm and the outdoor fan is not spinning. That is a capacitor, a breaker, or a float switch on a clogged drain, not a stat. Changing the stat does not clear the condensate line.
The house cools and still feels wet. The stat can hold 76 degrees while the humidity stays up, because the system shuts off before it pulls the moisture out. That conversation is a dehumidifier or a unit that is too large, which is a load calculation on AC installation, not a Wi-Fi stat.
What people in Florida actually set is covered in the thermostat temperature post. The number on the wall and the equipment that has to hold it are two different calls.
